History of Hotpoint
Founded in 1911 in California, Hotpoint took its name from the ‘hot point’ of the first electric iron. Their full name was the Hotpoint Electric Heating Company. The name was shortened when they joined General Electric in 1918. The company was most well-known for its washing machines and refrigerators. They produced the first refrigerator on wheels, which made it easier for people to clean behind the large appliance. In 1965, they created a washing machine with a low-speed setting so that delicates and synthetics need not be washed by hand. Hotpoint has manufacturing sites in the UK, as well as the U.S.
