Hotpoint Appliance Repair Services in LA

History of Hotpoint

Founded in 1911 in California, Hotpoint took its name from the ‘hot point’ of the first electric iron. Their full name was the Hotpoint Electric Heating Company. The name was shortened when they joined General Electric in 1918. The company was most well-known for its washing machines and refrigerators. They produced the first refrigerator on wheels, which made it easier for people to clean behind the large appliance. In 1965, they created a washing machine with a low-speed setting so that delicates and synthetics need not be washed by hand. Hotpoint has manufacturing sites in the UK, as well as the U.S.

Brands that have manufactured Hotpoint (or Hotpoint has also manufactured for) include:

  • General Electric (GE)
  • Electrolux
  • Indesit
  • Creda

Hotpoint appliances we service include, but are not limited to:

  • Refrigerator & Top Freezer – Most common in households, it has been the leading style since the 1940’s. Some budget models and mini-fridges use a freezer chest as opposed to a separate compartment.
  • Side by Side Refrigerators – Also called “American Style”, they were invented by Amana to provide more freezer space. Left is the freezer, Right is the refrigerator.
  • Gas Cooktops – Using natural gas, they provide the cook with the ability to perfectly control temperatures with an open flame.
  • Electric Cooktops – Converts electricity in order to heat iron coils, which in turn heat the cookware. Originally created as a novelty, they can be expensive to run. They are seen with both glass/ceramic tops and hotplates.
  • Gas Oven – Traditional and most cost-effective, more models are being released with the ability to become a convection oven for even baking.
  • Electric Oven – Uses electricity to heat elements in the oven in order to cook. Not incredibly cost effective, but can cook more evenly than a conventional gas oven.
  • Freestanding Ranges – Made with Oven and Cooktop combined, they can be entirely gas, electric, or with a gas cooktop and electric oven.
  • Under-Counter Dishwashers – These are occasionally built-in for a more coordinated look. Usually made so that they are easy to install and service, they take the hassle out of hand washing.
  • Top Load Washers – Typically made larger and to hold more clothing, these washers don’t rely upon a door seal and usually require less maintenance.
  • Dryers – Fast and efficient, these cut down the time it takes to dry clothing. They can be either gas or electric. There are many types of dryers, but Tumbler dryers are the most widely used in consumer homes.

Complications

GE/Hotpoint has had quite a few recalls, spanning nearly every type of appliance they make. Most recently they have recalled a front loading washer for its basket separating during the spin cycle, a dishwasher for a faulty heating element that posed a fire hazard, and a gas range top due to a delayed ignition that could also pose a fire hazard. Whether you are familiar with your appliance or not if its new, it is always important to call a repair service if you detect anything out of the ordinary with your unit. Such as:

  • Gas not turning off
  • Gas not turning on
  • Ignition clicking, but not igniting
  • Leaks
  • Faulty displays
  • Strange/Unusual smells
  • Loud/Disruptive noises
